ABOUT ME

I finished my 4 Year Ba Hons Textiles with Surface Design course about 2 years ago. I presented my Final Year work at the Degree Show, but when it comes to talking about myself, it has become a rollercoaster of a story. I started off as a knitter, picking that as my specialism in my first year and I absolutely loved it. I started to enjoy it again in my second year with the very first project that I did, but along the way, I started to enjoy it less. So during my second year, I found myself putting the knitting aside and experimenting with different mediums, for example, felt and embroidery, which I absolutely loved. It was a nice change. But during my final year, I decided to focus more on my strengths, which was drawing and printing. Within the last year of that course and the time I had with my FMP, I have rediscovered my love and passion for drawing and printing, by creating a drawing project where I have experimented with creating quirky surface designs from these drawings and creating for the very first time, tiling.

So you can see what kind of journey I have been through for those past 2 years on that course. But when it comes to thinking about my future, I still find myself a little lost. I started off as a knitter and now I'm pursing my passion for drawing and printing. But after my FMP and seeing my work in the degree show, I now know that this is what I want to purse. I want to rethink and take a different approach to how I see the outside world and using that inspiration to encapsulate my photography, drawings and surface designs. I want to create a style where you rethink the traditional techniques in order to create something new, fun, quirky, vibrant and a little bit different.

But I still do knitting on occasions. I always have the focus of experimenting with machine knit, hand knit and crochet. I always try to develop new methods and techniques by learning new innovative ideas and concepts while continuing to experiment with the notions of structure, 3-D, colour and yarns.
